Chapter 5.4 - Factoring
Factoring is the opposite of expanding or distributing.
Steps to Factoring
1. Find the GCF (greatest common factor)
2. rewrite each term as the product of the GCF
3. rewrite the problem in factored form
For example... let's factor 12x + 10 using the steps above
1. the GCF of 12x and 10 is 2
2. 12x as a product of the GCF (2) would be 2(6x), 10 as product of GCF (2) would be 2(5)
3. 2(6x + 5)
