Chapter 3.3 - Adding Integers

There two methods for adding integers.

The first way is using a number line.

When you use a number line, start at zero.  Then...

If the integer is positive, you move the value of the integer to the right.

If the integer is negative, you move the value of the integer to the left.

Notice how they followed these rules in the picture.

The second way of adding integers is following these rules.

If the integers have the same sign...

- add the numbers together

- keep the sign

If the integers have different signs (one positive and one negative)...

- subract the numbers (larger number minus smaller number)

- keep the sign of the number with the larger absolute value

Character vs. Reputation

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation.

Character is what you really are.

Reputation is what people say you are.

Why did I put this quote in here?
Because I want you to do the next assignment without a calculator.
Will I know if you cheated and used one?  Nope...
but you are the one that has to look yourself in the mirror at the end of the day.
