Chapter 2.5 - Consumer Math
and Commissions
Consumer Math... what is that?
Consumer Math is made up of practical math skills used in everyday life. Tax, tips, sales and mark ups would be examples of consumer math.
Some vocabulary you will want to be familiar with so this assignment is easier to understand is...
Tax - additional money paid to the government on sold goods
Tip - additional money paid for a service provided
(a waitor or a waitress earns money by receiving tips)
Mark up - the amount of money a store will "mark up" the price of a good
(for example, if a store buys a chair for $50 and sells it for $75, the mark up is $25)

Percents - calculate tax, tip, mark-up, and more (6th Grade)
