Chapter 5.3 - Add & Subtract Fractions
To add fractions with the same denominator, add the numerator ONLY. The denominator stays the same in the answer (until you simplify).
If you ate one eighth of a pizza and then ate three eighths of a pizza, in total you ate four out of the eighth original slices of the pizza.
Fractions with the same denominator are called like fractions.
Fractions with different denominators are called unlike fractions.

Now, take what you learned in the first lesson and apply it to some word problems.

To add mixed numbers, just convert them to improper fractions.
So, the mixed numbers in the previous problem would be 13/5 and 8/5.
After that, it's just using the same rules from the previous lesson.
