Chapter 3.4 - Subtracting Integers

Adding and subtracting integers are closely related.

Subtracting is the same as adding the opposite. In other words...

5 - 3 is the same as 5 + (-3).  Either way, the answer is 2.

This is an important concept to understand.  To help us remember, we sometimes use the phrase "chop-chop."  We change the subtraction sign to addition with our first chop, and then change the sign of the second number with our second chop.

Character vs. Reputation

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation.

Character is what you really are.

Reputation is what people say you are.

-John Wooden

Why did I put this quote in here?
Because I want you to do the next assignment without a calculator.
Will I know if you cheated and used one?  Nope...
but you are the one that has to look yourself in the mirror at the end of the day.

Now, use what you have learned to apply it to real world story problems.

Now, one more assignment.

If I gave you a number sentence like this, can you fill in the missing number?

-3 + ___ = 2

Take what you have learned in previous lessons and apply it to E4.

90 points will be considered full credit so you may stop at 81.
Anything above a 90 will be considered extra credit.
